tropical paradise

WOW its been hot outside lately! As you might have guessed, these flowers were not actually taken anywhere tropical - i have actually never been on the other side of the equator - but i have felt like waterloo is in the tropics these past few days, and these flowers ARE from waterloo :)

a tribute to ontario

the trillium - Trillium grandiflorum, to be exact - is here! this pretty flower just happens to be the provincial flower of ontario... and its blooming all over the place right now... and, well, it makes me smile... so i say, lets celebrate it!

standing tall

this is another one from the field trip on friday. it was a pretty perfect day for walking around outside, and the new growth of springtime was all around. i really like spring because everything looks so fresh, and the leaves are small enough that you can still see the sky through them!

herp

this is my darling kristy-michelle with her herpetile buddy, the red-backed salamander. Our prof found this little guy under a log on our field trip on friday and i got to hold him too... it was fun - i don't think i've had ever held a salamander before that!

treacherous crossings

oh, what a fun hike it was! it is amusing to watch a wide variety of people - ages 8 to probably somewhere around 65 - male and female - overprepared and underprepared - all try to complete the same tasks, and all helping each other along the way... it really made my heart happy!
